
Alba Salgado
PhD candidate
Alba Salgado Roo is a PhD candidate in the Department of Zoology, Genetics and Physical Anthropology at the University of Santiago de Compostela in partnership with the Genomics Medicine Foundation. Her thesis project focuses on the development of in vivo (Danio rerio) and in vitro (hiPSCs) models for the Progressive Myoclonus Epilepsy Lafora Type, or Lafora Disease (ORPHA:501), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Laura Sánchez Piñón and Dr. Catarina Allegue Toscano.
She obtained her MSc in ‘Genomics and Genetics’ at the University of Santiago de Compostela where she also graduated in Pharmacy (MSc, BSc). During her bachelor’s degree she was a visiting scholar at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Czech Republic, 2017) where she performed research in the field of Biochemical Pharmacology. As part of her international experience she involved herself in another undergraduate research program in the Department of Chemical Biology at the University of East Anglia (UK, 2015). For the last two years of her degree she joined the Centre for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials as part of an undergraduate research program in Medicinal Chemistry.
