Sabela Fernández Vila (Lugo, 1982), High school teacher since 2008. Nowadays she is teaching “Molecular biology” to laboratory technicians.

She has a degree in nursing from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a master´s degree in genetic, environmental and nutritional conditions in development from the same university.

She did numerous courses and stays in companies to learn about the different molecular biology techniques.

She started her PhD in Molecular Medicine in 2019. She is doing a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Laura Sánchez Piñón and PhD Maria P. Ikonomopoulou. It is proposed to examine the antitumor activity of various spider peptides in different cell lines and in zebrafish embryos.

Once the results are obtained in cell lines (melanoma, colon, páncreas…) in vivo studies will be carried out in the zebrafish, a model organism that, due to it´s characteristics, allows studies of toxicity, biodistribution and xenotransplantation of tumor cells. Combined in vitro and in vivo studies will allow characterizing the antitumor properties of these new types of compounds.
